Apraxia of Speech

Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) is an evidence-based therapy approach specifically designed to treat Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). This motor speech disorder causes difficulty with planning and coordinating the movements needed for clear and accurate speech.

DTTC focuses on helping children learn and consistently produce accurate speech movements through intensive practice and carefully structured cues. The approach emphasizes repetition, movement accuracy, and gradually reducing support as the child becomes more independent.

Articulation and Phonology

Articulation disorders involve difficulty physically producing specific speech sounds (e.g., saying “wabbit” for “rabbit” or “thoap” for “soap”). Phonological disorders are patterns of sound errors that affect entire classes of sounds (e.g., leaving off final sounds in words or substituting all long sounds like “s” and “z” with a stop sound like “t”).

These issues can make it hard for children to be understood, which may lead to frustration or affect their participation at school and in social settings. Articulation and phonological disorders are among the most common speech challenges in children. At Sisu Speech Services, we offer individualized, evidence-based therapy to help children produce sounds correctly and communicate with confidence.

Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders

Expressive and receptive language disorders affect a child’s ability to understand and use language effectively. A receptive language disorder makes it difficult for a child to understand spoken language, follow directions, or grasp the meaning of words and sentences. Children with expressive language challenges may speak in short phrases, use limited vocabulary, or struggle to tell stories or answer questions. At Sisu Speech Services, we provide individualized, evidence-based therapy to strengthen both receptive and expressive language skills. Therapy focuses on building vocabulary, improving sentence structure, enhancing understanding of language, and supporting meaningful communication at home, in school, and in social settings. Sessions are engaging, goal-driven, and tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Fluency (Stuttering)

Fluency disorders, commonly known as stuttering, affect the smooth flow of speech and can include repetitions, prolongations, or blocks in sounds, syllables, or words. These disruptions can cause frustration, anxiety, or avoidance of speaking situations for both children and adults. At Sisu Speech Services, we offer personalized, evidence-based fluency therapy designed to improve speech smoothness, build confidence, and develop effective communication strategies. Therapy often involves techniques to regulate breathing, control speech rate, and reduce tension, combined with counseling to support emotional well-being. Our goal is to empower clients to communicate more comfortably and confidently in everyday life.

Voice

Voice disorders occur when there are problems with the pitch, volume, or quality of a person’s voice, which can make speaking difficult or uncomfortable. Common issues include hoarseness, breathiness, strain, or loss of voice. At Sisu Speech Services, we provide specialized therapy to help individuals regain a healthy, strong, and flexible voice. Treatment focuses on techniques to reduce vocal strain, improve breath support, and develop healthy vocal habits. Whether voice problems arise from overuse, injury, or medical conditions, our personalized approach aims to restore vocal function and enhance communication in daily life.

Social Pragmatic Communication

Social pragmatic communication refers to the skills needed to use language effectively in social situations, including understanding and following conversational rules, interpreting nonverbal cues, taking turns, and adapting language based on the listener or setting. Difficulties with social communication can impact relationships, academic success, and everyday interactions. At Sisu Speech Services, we offer tailored therapy to help individuals develop stronger social communication skills. Our approach includes practicing conversation skills, recognizing body language and facial expressions, and learning perspective taking. Therapy is designed to build confidence and improve meaningful connections in social, school, and community settings.

Pediatric Feeding

Pediatric feeding therapy addresses difficulties children may have with eating, chewing, swallowing, or mealtime behavior. These challenges can affect nutrition, growth, and overall well-being, and may stem from sensory sensitivities, medical conditions, or developmental delays. At Sisu Speech Services, we provide compassionate, individualized feeding therapy to support safe and positive eating experiences. Therapy focuses on improving oral motor skills, increasing food acceptance, and developing healthy mealtime routines. We work closely with families to create practical strategies that make mealtimes less stressful and more enjoyable for children and caregivers alike.

Aphasia

Aphasia is a communication disorder that results from brain injury or stroke, affecting a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write. Individuals with aphasia may struggle to find words, form sentences, or comprehend language, which can impact daily life and relationships. At Sisu Speech Services, we offer personalized, evidence-based aphasia therapy designed to improve communication skills and enhance quality of life. Therapy focuses on restoring language abilities, teaching alternative communication strategies, and supporting clients and their families throughout the recovery process. Our goal is to empower individuals with aphasia to express themselves effectively and engage fully in their communities.
